Green Synthesis Ca-MgO Nanosorbent for the Uptake of Cobalt Ions from Aqueous Media

Ca-doped magnesium oxide nanosorbent has been prepared by sol-gel in the presence of gum arabic extract and assessed for removal cobalt ions (Co (II)) from aqueous media. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates formation MgO CaO composites with a mean crystallite size 6 nm having large surface area 50 m2/g. Scanning transmission electron microscopy observations reveal spherical-shaped particles at nanoscale around 20 nm. Besides, photoelectron spectroscopy Fourier transform infrared analyses manifest existence functional groups, which will facilitate adsorption metal ions. The capability CaO-MgO achieved 469.5 mg/g Co (II) under optimum operating conditions. Furthermore, experimental data elucidate that process is primarily diffusion-based both intraparticle boundary layer diffusion appear to play key role rate-controlling step. findings this study highlight remediation contaminated water nanostructure can be extended other organic pollutants.
